F-1 (Student Visa)

Description
The F-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa issued to a foreign national who is coming to the United States to pursue full-time studies in a US academic institution such as a college, university, seminary, conservatory, academic high school, private elementary school, other academic institution, or language-training program.

Duration of Stay
An F-1 student is admitted for his/her duration of status to complete the studies. He/she is also allowed to stay in the U.S. for up to twelve additional months beyond the completion of the studies to pursue practical training.

Accompanying Family
Dependents (spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21) of F-1 visa holders can obtain an F-2 visa. They must submit a visa application individually.

Requirements
  • Be admitted to an approved school to pursue a full time academic program in an institution in the United States.
  • Have a valid educational purpose for coming to the United States.
  • Have the financial resources required for his/her education and stay in the United States.
  • Have a permanent residence in his/her home country, which he/she does not intend to abandon
  • Intend to depart the U.S. upon completion of the course of study
